School Holiday Concert

I played bass in the orchestra for our holiday concert at school. We preformed 3 songs: Dreidel, Ukrainian Bell Carol, and Salamander Samba.

I am a little upset that I got an easy part even though I was a fifth grader.

Boom, Bang, Tick, Stomp!

This weekend my family and I went to see the show Stomp! There where ten fabulous performers. They all did many different individual scenes. The scenes all involved some sort of irregular instrument, such as a garbage can, a basketball, or a matchbox. Stomp is a very inspiring play that demonstrates one thing in this world that you don’t have to pay for, music.

Judo With Isa

We took a Judo class with Isa at Sarah Lawrence. We worked on a few  warmup exercises like shrimping and did push-ups and rolls before working on throws. There were hip throws and shoulder throws that were pretty similar to the throws we do at my dojo. They were very easy and probably better then the one's at my dojo. I really enjoyed it.

Mobile Races

The annual cub scout -mobile races took place today. Basically, each den builds or inherits a cub-mobile and two scouts race them down a hill. There are "catchers" at the bottom who stop the cars when they cross the finish line. My dad has always been the main catcher.

For Halloween I dressed as a druid, but no one knew what I was. They kept asking if I was Gandalf, Merlin, Moses or even Rip Van Winkle. At school we had a parade and a party in our class. After school we went trick or treating.

I read Inheritance by Christopher Paolini. This book was the fourth and final book in the Inheritance cycle. It’s about a sixteen year old farmer’s son named Eragon. Eragon finds a dragon in the forest and names her Saphira. They become the legendary “dragon and rider”, in-fact the only ones left to overthrow evil “king” Galbitorax.

This text made me wonder why dragons are still so popular. I noticed that in some chapters Paolini wrote from Eragon’s point of view and others he was an observer. I give this book five stars because it managed to capture my attention and I remember it as up their with Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings!

My friend took my dad and me to see the Giants play the Eagles at Giants Stadium. It was a lot of fun.

My friends couldn't stay for the whole game, but it was probably just as well. As soon as they left the game went downhill and every play prompted a mass exodus from Giants' fans.

The Child Law of Liberty

As the children of America we labor in the school system and we are entitled to the basic rights that follow. These demands are not wishes presented out of want but the building blocks of decency.

The Lake Monster

Since I was three my dad has been rowing me across the lake at our bungalow in the Catskills. He tells me stories about the Mohican Lake Monster we actually see, which crawls around at night and is never in the same spot in the morning. I used to think this was concrete evidence of magic. His stories made me feel magical. A year ago dad started telling Andi these stories. She enjoys them too, and this is how she was introduced to the idea that the greed of dragons and dwarves cause them to fight over gold.

Building Bridges

From left to right: Nicholas, Jack, Nick, Eason,
Luke, Austin, Alexandra, Imogen, Logan.
On June 6 our district Youth Advocate, Mrs. Low, came to our class for the last time and we did our only outdoor activity. We had a task of getting from one side of the ocean filled with sharks to the pure gold island, and all we had was 3 long boards (like the one we're holding in the picture) and 9 milk crates. We couldn't stand in the ocean or allow the boards to touch the water.

Right away I had an idea.

4th Grade Field Day

We had our 4th grade field day. It's a lot like color war and the teams are colors. First we did a very loud cheering contest. Then we had a person to person hockey shooting tournament. Next we did a football throwing contest and a bowling game. We left the gym after a game of Hula-Hut Take Down. Then we had an even louder cheering contest, which became just one huge scream. Then we ran, jumped, and threw ten relays. We finished off with a tug-a-war tournament. The loudest screaming of the day and popsicles.

Spring Campout

Even though it rained, I still had a pretty good time with all the activities at Alpine Scout Camp. This was my last campout there. I was glad that Andi came with us. She got to participate in all the activities. At the end we got sad that this was our last time and took a bunch of pictures of our favorite places.

School Science Fair

We had our School Science Fair. We did experiments with levers using Legos and quarters. My dad helped me make charts on our observations. All the students who participated presented our projects at the fair to parents, teachers and other students. When people came to our station we explained our problem and experiments.

See the project poster board below with all our experiments and observations:

1) no stopping
2) no injuries
3) no tears
And I finished in 30:30 and beat my dad!

USS Massachusetts Battleship Sleepover

Me and my dad went to a sleepover on the USS Massachusetts Battleship.

We did a lot of things together. We explored three battleships and a submarine. Then we had a fire drill. Then we finished exploring the main battleship and the museum. Then we had dinner. Then we went to this gun ship where you could turn the wagon, but it was really hard to turn. He told me he'd pay for my dog tags if I could turn it 360 degrees and I did. I really like my dog tags.

Hockey Game

My dad I went to a hockey match. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (home team ) faced the Connecticut Whales. In the first and second periods the whales scored once each. In the last period the Sound Tigers pulled themselves together and scored twice, going into sudden death. It took the Whales about 4 minutes to score the game winning goal.

We went sledding at Maple Moor Golf Course with a bunch of friends.

It was fun. I went down the hills a bunch of times. One of the hills had a sand pit and we went air-born a few times. On the other hill we got very close to sledding into the Hutchinson River.
